The Problem

Early winter is when you want the balance test done, since a spring that's slightly off in October gets worse once the metal contracts in the cold. Deep winter is when outages and hard freezes overlap, and that's when a marginal opener is most likely to quit - if yours has been acting up, don't wait until a storm to deal with it. Spring is a good time for a real look at the opener's wiring and the wall unit, since that's when we see the wear from a winter of temperature swings show up clearly.
